Terex has had a consistent evolution sequence. In 1995 Terex acquired PPM Cranes, in 1996, then Terex divested Clark Materials Handling. In 1997 Terex acquires Telelect and Simon-RO. BPI Handlers in Baraga, Michigan is also acquired this same year.
Terex swiftly grew their mining and Crane business with the acquisition of O&K mining, TerexLift, Gru Comedil, American Crane and Peiner. A Light Construction business soon followed in 1999 when Terex acquired Amida, Bartell and Benford. They soon became a leader within the crushing and screening industry by buying Cedarapids, Powerscreen, BL Pegson, Re-Tech, and Finlay. Franna, Kooi and Princeton crane suppliers were also added to Terex in 1999.
By the year 2000, Terex expanded into the Compact Equipment industry, acquiring Fermac who is a producer specializing in tractor loader backhoes. Their Light Construction operations continued to expand business with the acquisition of Coleman Engineering. This same year, Terex divested Moffett, Kooi and Princeton.
In 2001, Terex expanded their Roadbuilding division operations with the acquisitions of CMI, Bid-Well, Load King, Atlas and Jaques.
Single ratio transmissions exist, and they work by adjusting the speed and torque of motor output. Many transmissions have many gear ratios and can switch between them as their speed changes. This gear switching can be carried out manually or automatically. Forward and reverse, or directional control, could be supplied also.
The transmission in motor vehicles will generally connect to the engines crankshaft. The output travels through the driveshaft to one or more differentials in effect driving the wheels. A differential's main function is to be able to change the rotational direction, even though, it can even provide gear reduction too.
Power transmission torque converters and other hybrid configurations are other alternative instruments for speed and torque change. Conventional gear/belt transmissions are not the only device obtainable.
The simplest of transmissions are simply called gearboxes and they supply gear reductions in conjunction with right angle change in the direction of the shaft.
