History – 1930 to 1950
Crown Equipment Corporation was first born is rural central American town known as New Bremen, Ohio, USA. The company has matured from a one-room operation into a globally prominent corporation, currently considered to be the 7th biggest forklift producer on the planet.
Two brothers Allen A. Dicke and the late Carl H. Dicke created the Crown company in 1945. Carl's son, James F. Dicke joined the family company later on that year. Presently, his son, James F. Dicke II, is Chairman and CEO. James F. Dicke III, serves as the company Head these days, becoming the fourth generation of the Dicke descendants to uphold this position.
Crown first began with a small clientèle producing temperature controls that they manufactured for coal burning furnaces. The assembly of these control items took place in a former hardware store stationed in New Bremen, Ohio, where Crown’s headquarters currently remain.
In 1949, responding to the public’s rising appeal of the TV, Crown moved into the manufacture of antenna rotators. This product was utilized to enhance television reception and picture quality. The company’s successful move allowed them to become a leading manufacturer of units until 2001. The company ceased production in October after a decline in the global demand for TV antenna rotators.

In the early 1950’s Crown diversified into the production and repair of electronic and mechanical machinery for government and private market. After a number of successful bids within a short period of time, the company had developed a reputable business in this field.
With such flexibility and success, Crown was able to expand its production to include materials handling equipment. Crown began the manufacture of forklifts and lift vehicles in 1957. The organization believed the market needed a smaller line of first-class quality lift trucks. Crown immediately produced an exceptional range of modern equipment and swiftly evolved into the most rapidly evolving materials handling organization with its range of merchandise.
In 1966, Crown ventured outside of the US material handling marketplace and into Australia.
