The city of Miami Gardens, Florida is a suburb city located in the county of Miami-Dade. The name Miami Gardens is named for Miami Gardens Drive, amongst the cities major roadways. The city had a population of roughly 107,165 based on the Census of 2010. There is predominantly an African American population residing here and it is the biggest city within Florida State.

After the construction of I-95 during the latter part of the 1960s, there were middle and upper income West Indian American and African American families who moved into the area from the many Miami neighborhoods. They traveled to Norwood or Norland that later became Miami Gardens. At first, they arrived because restrictive covenants fell into abandonment and nearly all low income African Americans moved into the inner city neighborhoods that surrounded Edison Courts and Liberty Square.

Miami Gardens was incorporated on May 13, 2003. The city's neighborhoods of Bunche Park, Lake Lucerne, Andover, Opa-Locka North, Scott Lake and Carol City were previously unincorporated areas within Miami-Dade County.

The Miami Dolphins call the city home. They frequently play in Sun Life Stadium on land that was part the Lake Lucerne CDP. The yearly Orange Bowl college football game is held at the Sun Life Stadium. Furthermore, this is the University of Miami Hurricanes football team's home field. The Antioch Mission Baptist Church of Carol City is active within the region and has more than 7500 members active within the area. In addition, the Calder Race Course is located here.

Miami Gardens is situated near many unincorporated areas, including 35 incorporated cities. Much of the central, northern and eastern portions of the county support high rises all along the shores and are heavily urbanized. South Florida's central business district location is considered to be Downtown Miami. The Southern Miami-Dade County comprises the Redland and Homestead areas. These are the agricultural hubs of Miami's economy. Approximately 33% of Miami-Dade County's inhabited land area is Agricultural Redland. This region is sparsely populated and offers a stark contrast to the heavily inhabited northern part of the county of Miami-Dade. The Everglades National Park is the western part of the county that is populated only by a Miccosukee Tribal village. The Biscayne National Park is situated east of the mainland within Biscayne Bay.
