Pembroke Pines, Florida is located within Broward County, along the southern Atlantic Coast. The city of Pembroke Pines is the 2nd largest city within the county of Broward with practically 155,000 people. Pembroke Pines is located halfway between the city of Miami and the city of Fort Lauderdale. The city is the 9th biggest city in Florida State.
The region was first settled by the American Indians over 4,000 years ago, or longer. There has been some archaeological proof found in Broward County which dates back more than 10,000 years. It is speculated that the name Pembroke originated from Earl of Pembroke, an early British landowner. The city, which wasn't incorporated until the year 1960, is located beside Pembroke Road. The area is characterized by numerous pine trees.
Pembroke Pines is situated within an easy distance from two seaports and two airports: Port Everglades, the Port of Miami, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and the Miami International Airport. The highway US 27 gives access to Lake Okeechobee and to various regions within Florida State.

A wetland park is planned for Sheridan Street and US 27. In nearby city of Fort Lauderdale are The Miami-Hollywood Motorsports Park, The Museum of Art and The International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Since the year 1992, subdivisions of the city have expanded considerably west of Interstate 75, within West Pines. This development has occurred after Hurricane Andrew.
